Dr. M. Balusamy carried out his graduation in Agriculture (1983) and post- graduation and Ph.D in Agronomy at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. Started his carrier as Assistant Professor in 1986 and has 30 years of experience in teaching, research and extension. Specialized in Farming System Research and Development. Served as Professor and Head, at Regional Research Station and KVK, Vriddhachalam during 2002-2007and Professor and Head / Principal at Agricultural Research Station, Bhavanisagar from 2007- 2010. Chief Scientist in ICAR – water management scheme and also operated more than 12 schemes funded by ICAR, NADP, IRRI, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, private agency etc., Offered several courses in UG, PG and Ph. D programmes in Agronomy and guided 4 PG students and 2 Ph.D scholars. Published 7 books, 43 booklets and manuals, 45 research papers, 29 popular articles and 38 other extension materials. Attended 9 trainings and19 workshops and presented papers in 6 national and 3 international seminars.
During his career period, he has made outstanding contributions in developing technologies in integrated farming system models for wet and garden land conditions, soybean agronomy and two promising cultures in groundnut VRI (Gn) 6 and VRI (Gn) 7 were released. Large scale production of cashew grafts, certified and TFL seeds were produced and supplied to the farming community. Centenary celebration to Agricultural Research Station, Bhavanisagar was conducted during 2008.
Secured many honours and professional awards such as Jawaharlal Nehru Award for outstanding Post-graduate Agricultural Research, Prof. S. Subramanian medal for the best Ph.D. thesis in Agronomy, Best Poster presentation award at National Symposium, Karnal, Dr.G.Rangaswami medal in outstanding research paper in MAJ, Best Extension Worker award, National Krishi Vigyan Kendra award for the outstanding contribution in Extension Education etc. Membership in Farming System Research and Development Association, Association for Promotion of Organic Farming, MASU, Society of Agricultural Resource Management, Indian Society of Agronomy, etc.
