Agribusiness Incubation Center

An Agri Business Incubation Centre (ABIC) was established in the year 2016 in an areaof 4600 sq.ft in the institution with technical collaboration from ICRISAT, Hyderabadand machinery funding from CPCRI, Kasaragod. This centre facilitates aspiring agri entrepreneurs to become incubatees with support from the institution and experiment on their product development in coconuts.

ABIC guides the students on agro based startups through an incubation concept. Duringthe Experiential Learning programme, students involve in manufacturing, marketing andselling the products and the income generated is shared among them. Final year studentsare encouraged to take part in base-line survey, to support VIA in its assessment of farmers’livelihood. This helps us to strategize a business plan for FPCs. The constant interactionwith the FPCs, who are mostly first generation entrepreneurs, give the students the necessaryknowledge and confidence to plan a future in agro based business.

Standard Operating Guideline

For Incubatee

ABIC guides the students on agro based startups through an incubation concept. Final year studentsare encouraged to take part in base-line survey, to support VIA in its assessment of farmers’livelihood. This helps us to strategize a business plan for FPCs. For Students

During the Experiential Learning programme, students involve in manufacturing, marketing and selling the products and the income generated is shared among them.

Strategy of ABIC

The strategy is to group the farmers to strengthen their production skills, post-harvest skills, and provide them a technology to produce value added product and facilitate them in branding and marketing. The capacity of the processing unit will be less than the produce at a FPO, so arrangement will be made linking the FPO to small medium enterprise at incubator and outside. Whereas incubator will support the entrepreneurs, small medium enterprise to minimize the risk .The main aim of the project is to increase the profit per nut of the farmers by not less than Re. 1.

"This institute believes in enabling farming communities to bring about significant changes in their lives by themselves."
