DIRECTOR

Dr.N.Kempu chetty currently working as Director,Vanavarayar Institute of Agriculture Pollachi ,Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu has served previously as Principal and Director (Extension Services & Research) at Vanavarayar Institute of Agriculture, Manakkadavu, Pollachi during the period January 2008 to February 2016 and contributed for the development of the infrastructure and faculties of the college. Before this assignment, he has served for 37 years (1970-2007) in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in the areas of teaching, research and extension services. Basically he is an Agronomist, graduated in 1969 and with good career took his Doctorate in Agriculture (Agronomy) during 1990 and also has worked as Post Doctoral Fellow at International Rice Research Institute, Philippines during 1993.

He is the recipient of many citations and awards during his carrier. He has published over 110 scientific and popular articles, 13 books and booklets. He has specialization in the field of Agricultural Meteorology, Integrated Weed Management, Integrated Nutrient management in agricultural crops, Organic Farming, Yield sustainability in dry land farming, Wasteland development, Natural resource management and Good Agricultural Practices based crop production and protection technologies. Under his supervision 4 M.Sc(Ag.) and 3 Ph.D., students have done their thesis research. He was responsible for the dissemination of important technologies like Crop- Weather modeling and forecast of pest and disease in important crops in relation to weather condition, developing integrated nutrient management and weed management practices in different cropping systems, crop-weed interaction models and production technologies for rice, groundnut, oil palm, tapioca and castor crops.

He had many Professional Assignments at International, National and State level organizations like AB-DLO, Wageningen, IRRI, Philippines, Jain Irrigation System Limited, Julgoan, Maharastra , Agro-met Advisory Service Centre, IMD, Poona, DHAN Foundation, Madurai, Agri-clinic and Agribusiness Training Centers, Madurai, Gandhigram Deemed University, Dindugal and Anna University, Chennai (TNPCEE).
